Union Protest Regarding Renovations at CSI’s Science Building

Published: Monday January 25, 2010, 3:47 pm

You may have noticed a demonstration at the main entrance to the College of Staten Island regarding renovations taking place at the Lab Sciences (6S) Building.

I will begin by saying that I wholly support unionized labor. Unions are a strong and supportive backbone of the American economy.

While my authority in the hiring practices of this project was limited, I am pleased to report that we worked with The City University of New York, the New York Power Authority (NYPA), and the General Contractor (GC) and it appears that the issues in question have been resolved.

The GC had hired prevailing wage workers pursuant to New York State (NYS) Labor Law to work onsite. CSI and NYPA are committed to ensuring a safe and secure professional working environment for all members of the College community.
